Curriculum Vitae

After obtaining a degree in Biology (ptychion, University of Athens), A. Vlamis, went to UK for an M.Sc in Clinical Biochemistry (University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne) and a Ph.D. in biochemistry (University of Sussex). He then moved to Sweden (1994 to 2003) where he worked at the Department of Biochemistry at the Karolinska Institute (associate professor in 2003). In 2004 he returned to Greece where he worked at the Institute for Biomedical Research of the Academy of Athens. In June 2009 he was elected assistant professor of biochemistry and molecular biology at the Department of Chemistry, University of Patras, in which he has been working since May 2011.

Research Activities

His main scientific interests lie within the field of electron flow via the thiol systems of thioredoxins and glutaredoxins. He has experience in the mechanisms that regulate the redox environment of cells (glutathione, glutaredoxins, and signal transduction pathways), oxidative stress, protein interactions in redox pairs. Other areas of knowledge include the overexpression of eukaryotic and prokaryotic proteins and their purification and characterization.
