Research Activities

Using radiotracers:

  • Study of enzymes immobilization on cellulose in order to prepare biocatalysts suitable for various fermentations
  • Study of sugars uptake rate by microorganisms cells, in order to increase fermentation rate and explore the possibility of wastes conversion into added-value products by biotechnological methods.
  • Study of toxic trace elements uptake by microorganisms: (i) during baker’s yeast production (ii) in order to decontaminate liquid wastes.
  • Study of transport and diffusion mechanisms of toxic trace metals in soil-water systems in order to decontaminate liquid wastes and predict pollution in accidents.

Using Nuclear (INAA, XRF) and conventional Methods of Analysis (AAS)

  • Determination of necessary and toxic minerals and trace elements in foods in order to certify their nutritive value and any such contamination.
  • Determination of minerals, trace elements and natural or artificial radionuclides in environmental samples (water, soil, particulate matters etc.) in order to control the pollution.
